The Next Black Woman Pop/R&B-Star you need to Stan

Updated: Dec 5, 2022

There is a high demand for more black women Pop Stars. I've seen countless Tik Tok videos of black women asking where are the black women pop stars. Hailing from Silver Springs, Maryland Sarina a Haitian-American is the answer to this demand. Incorporating influences from her Afro-Caribbean heritage, her angelic vocals, and high quality visuals to compliment her music releases; Sarina is a refreshing twist to Pop/R&B music.

I first discovered Sarina’s music back in late 2020 as I was first getting my start as a playlist curator. Sarina was the very first artist to reach out to me for input on her debut album titled Come to the Light. I was more so focused on R&B and not the pop sound, but I'm glad I gave it a chance; The music and her vocals were stunning. As you start the project you are welcomed with angelic harmonies, and by the time you get to the album titled track you quickly realize Sarina is a talent you need to pay attention to. Bite Back solidifies that Sarina should be on big stages with a crowd of fans aggressively singing along to the chorus; A story of a woman fed up with the heart break, excuses, and lies. 10/10 gives you the nostalgic like Pop sound you know and love. Her vocals and songwriting truly shine through on this track, it's truly “10 out of 10”. The song has a fun bounce, and equally fun visuals. You Know Better has an irresistible beat that makes your hips move on their own.

Sarina came right back in 2021 with an amazing Ep titled Glass Paradise Deluxe, which streamed incredibly well for the independent star with well over 600k streams on Spotify alone. In this project you hear more Afro-Caribbean influence. You're welcomed into this project with a cool vibe, distant steel drums can be heard, and Sarina’s siren like vocals that sends your mind to an island vacation escape feeling. Overnight is a song veiled with her angelic vocals with deep lyrics. Kiwi is by far the most popular song on the EP (with over 300k streams) and you quickly understand why. With her angelic voice once again being the star of the song. Having a hypnotic cadence, and those drums were the recipe for the beloved hit single. My personal favorite track on the EP is My Mother. This song has the heaviest Afro-Caribbean influences, and a feature from Trinidadian-American genre bending star LATENIGHTJIGGY. This is a recipe for a good vibe. The beat makes your hips seemingly move on their own. There is a well shot video to accompany this amazing song, with great choreography parts as well.

Sarina’s latest single Blame Me has gained the attention of the head of Spotify R&B and is featured in their Editorial playlist Fresh Finds. Her angelic vocals and melodies continue to wow fans, curators, and execs. People are starting to catch on to the amazing indie pop star as she recently performed for Major Stage. I hope to see her fanbase grow even stronger, and her perform in brighter lights soon. Sarina has no plans to take her foot of the gas with a new release titled Jealousy expected to release Dec. 9th. If you're in search of the next Black Woman Pop Star to stan look no further.
