Gen Z has a new Pop/R&B star to get behind. Meet Obai, the Sudanese American musical wunderkind from Phoenix, Arizona, who's turning up the heat with his debut EP, "svnteen." Obai's musical journey began where his siblings introduced him to the soulful sounds of '90s and early '00s R&B and pop. His sister introduced him to NSYNC, and his brother 90’s and early 2000s R&B. Simultaneously, his parents immersed him in the rich tapestry of classic Sudanese music. These diverse influences laid the foundation for Obai's unique yet nostalgic sounds. We asked Obai “Your song “The River'' was recently featured in Season 19 of Grey’s Anatomy, are Sync opportunities something you actively think about when creating music?” In which he responds that it's not something he is actively thinking of when creating music. Although if it makes sense to be placed somewhere they will pitch it through the proper channels. Asked what his dream placements are in which he replied he would love to have his song in a tv series or movie especially a Spiderman movie. Meanwhile, his most recent single, "dancefloor," has been rapidly gaining popularity, amassing hundreds of thousands of streams and solidifying Obai's position as a rising star in the music scene. “”Dancefloor” is the perfect combination of nostalgic boy band pop, and modern production.



Obai attributes his love for music to the strong familial bonds forged during his upbringing. His parents, who played a pivotal role in shaping his character, worked tirelessly and inspired him to follow in their footsteps. In reflecting on his inspiration, Obai shares, "Sudan holds a super precious place in my heart. Seeing my parents go as hard as they did really inspired me to follow in their footsteps. I look up to them and I want to be as strong as them when I'm older. They shaped me, my brother, and my sister into better humans."
