In the ever-evolving world of music, artists like Midwxst are emerging as the next generation of musical trailblazers. The Indiana native has been captivating listeners with his unique sound, lyrical prowess, and genre pushing creativity. Commonly referred as a Hyper-Pop artist Midwxst’s creativity however makes it difficult to box him into one sound. Midwxst describes his music as simply Alternative or “I just make music” when asked to describe his musical style. He frequently experiments with various elements from different genres such as Hip Hop, R&B, Alternative, Jazz, and rock.
On September first Midwxst released his highly anticipated debut album titled E3. His intro “Lost” quickly pulls you into the world he is building in the album. With very deep meaningful lyrics accompanied by the famous Sunday Service Choir that he harmonizes well with that just adds more depth and feeling. He finds a way to blend elements of R&B, Gospel, Rock effortlessly. Midwxst is heavily involved in the production of his music, and after listening to this intro you start to understand that there is something special about Midwxst and his music. The second song on the album which is the lead single and also my personal favorite outside of the intro Pretty Girls leans more into his Rock influences. Painting a vivid picture of how Love can be a fairytale. Out of all the songs on the album Midwxst states Old Me is the most personal song to him. It was a “Moving moment for me”. He was proud of his personal and artistic growth, as well as being able to work with producers, artists and people he looked up to. Working on this project he was able to see the fruits of his labor pay off in a large way. This project is the perfect introduction to Midwxst music. Overall E3 is a great project with great production and world building of the story Midwxst is painting. .
Speaking with Midwxst during a panel interview you gained even more respect for him for how involved he is in the creative process, from the production to his visuals. He is very intentional and knowledgeable with the elements and influences he uses. Such as the frequent use of guitar in his music. Which stems from his love for rock music. Citing bands like Green Day, A Beacon School, and Movements as his main Rock influence. He can also break down the scenes of his music videos and explain why this scene was shot a certain way. He can cite videographers, and Directors from which he drew inspiration from. Midwxst is also very humble, being thankful to work with legendary producers like Charlie Heat and Sunday Service Choir among others he looks up while working on the project. Yet with all these collaborations Midwxst still is able to keep the purity of his musical style and sound. He explained it was surreal for him to be able to work with them and when he left the studio he couldn't believe that this was his life.
Midwxst further enhances the story of his album by having visuals for his lead single Pretty Girls, Warning, and Heartache Blues being intertwined. I asked during the panel interview "For your recent music videos of Pretty Girls, and Warning, there seems to be similarities in the visuals and Heartache Blues having a scene in the music video with a projection of a scene that appears to be from either video. One would assume these songs are connected. If they are connected could you tell us what the storyline is?": To which his answer was “They are very much connected”. He elaborates stating Pretty Girls is the start of the storyline. The start of a love fairytale gone wrong. Warning continues and strengthens that the fairytale has indeed gone wrong. While in Heartache Blues the scenes being projected on the wall are memories of that fairytale. Basically in a trance reflecting on how he ended up lost in this terrible fairytale. Lastly he added the song Lights Out is also connected. It is the conclusion where he breaks out the trance and finally realizes the love story was indeed just a fairytale. He also explains that once you listen to the album it will add some missing context and connect the dots more for fans.
Hailing from the Midwest, Midwxst musical style is very different from the norm of the trap rapper, and artist coming from there. He explained in the panel interview how he got a lot of push back and lack of support from his home state of Indiana and the Midwest region of the US early in his career. Despite that lack of support Midwxst stayed true to his sound and found his wave. Cultivating his core fan base from all over the world via the internet. Amassing over two million monthly listeners on Spotify, and 10s of millions of streams on singles, and collaborations with other artists. With his undeniable talent and popularity he won over those same people.
Midwxst stands as a shining example of individuality, innovation, and authenticity. His unique approach to his music, characterized by an eclectic fusion of genres and raw lyrical expression, has propelled him into the spotlight as one of the industry's most promising Alternative/HyperPop talents. As Midwxst continues to hone his craft, exploring new creative avenues and captivating audiences with his emotionally charged music, he is more than just a rising star; he is a visionary redefining the boundaries of music. Midwxst's artistry will undoubtedly leave an indelible mark on the industry, and his influence is set to extend far beyond his emerging stardom, leaving a lasting impact on the world of music.
