Jordan Hawkins: R&B's Rockstar Shaping a New Musical Paradigm

The world of R&B music has always been a space of innovation and evolution, producing artists who redefine and push the genre's boundaries with their unique styles and creative prowess. One name shines brightly: Jordan Hawkins, an R&B artist who has captured hearts with his soulful melodies, and raspy vocals. The combination of his vocals and shredding of his electric guitar has earned Jordan the title of “R&B’s Rockstar”. His electrifying energy is felt in every performance.

My introduction to Jordan Hawkins is from his 2021 single “Risky”. You will realize that there is something special about Jordan’s sound. His 2021 “Ep Heart Won't Stop” gives you a good picture of how well rounded Hawkins is as an Artist. Starting with an eclectic and soulful ballad “We Have” To me I hear a glorious blend of influence of styles of Eric Benet and Kenny Latimore. The track “Honey” is a hidden gem that features Earthgang. Utilizing his falsetto with the natural rasp of his voice gives an interesting texture to his vocals in this track. I also enjoy the track “Make me feel” which has an euphoric feel. You can’t help but “feel” The overall production of the ep is very well done. Instrumentation has been a lost art that Hawkins has capitalized on. His songs feel full, and lively.

The North Carolina native continued to feed the R&B world with quality releases in 2022 like his single “Superpower” which landed him a Colors Performance of the song. If you were somehow still on the fence about Jordan Hawkins you might have to get your ears checked. He quickly gave us an acoustic version of Superpower that's somehow even more soulful. Jordan still didn't let go of the gas and dropped “Play”. I feel this is where Hawkins has fully embarrassed his moniker of R&B’s Rockstar. From the sonics to the music video, and him going absolutely insane on the guitar in this song. I get chills every time I listen to this song.

Back in April Jordan Hawkins dropped an album “4Play” which is filled with fan favorite tracks: “Risky”, “Superpower”, and “Play”. His guitar is on full display throughout this album. He even teamed up with R&B superstars Reggie Becton on “Screamin” and Phabo on “Timeless” a very well done interpolation of Donell Jones U Know What's Up. Hawkins came right back in June and July with even more music. This time with a Funk&B track “Bad Girl'' If you appreciate funk you will definitely enjoy this track. Hawkins also teamed up with Star artist Duckwrth for “Can’t Fake What You Feel” which is a strong contender for my personal favorite song by Jordan. The Jazzy, and funky production is very well done with great instrumentation. Duckwrths verse offer an nice contrast to the sound of the track. I hope to see more collaborations between them in the future.

In the ever-evolving landscape of music, Jordan Hawkins has emerged as a trailblazer, leaving an indelible mark on the R&B genre. As we bear witness to his ongoing evolution, it becomes clear that Jordan Hawkins is not just an artist of the moment, but a creator of a timeless legacy. With each mesmerizing performance and boundary-pushing composition, Jordan Hawkins cements his place in the pantheon of musical greats of this rising generation of artist. Jordan Hawkins embodies everything it means to be a bARd.
