Max Swan A True bARd

Updated: Dec 6, 2022

If I say “Philly music” you most likely imagined Rap/Hip Hop artists. What if I told you Philly has one of the most diverse music scenes. With artists like Max Swan it's time for the music industry to pay closer attention to the many talented artist this city has to offer.

I was first introduced to Max Swans music by his manager, the lovely Scarlet Hernandez Membership Director at Rec Philly. She sent me Woohoo from his 2021 album Slow Jail and when I tell you I got chills and goosebumps the first time I listened to the record. Everything about the record is perfect, and I knew they had something special. From his smooth buttery vocals, vocal stacks, lyrics, and the real instrumentation. You can tell everything is calculated down to the most minute detail. Just put your headphones on max (no pun intended) and allow yourself to float to the melodies. As a fellow Alto Saxophonist myself I really enjoy hearing it in music over the more popular Tenor Sax option. Max is classically trained, and studied under legendary SNL band leader Lenny Pickett. Max’s skill really shines through in all his tracks, a true virtuoso. With skills like this he truly represents what it means to be a bARd.

You really can’t classify Max’s music as one genre as he pulls inspirations from many genres such as: Jazz, Soul, R&B, and some hip hop elements. The best description of his sound is what he describes as “Electro-Soul”. His ability to break genre boundaries is his allure, as he appeals to a very diverse audience. With his vocals, and musical ability you won’t care what genre it is called. At the end of the day it's just good music. Sheesh from the Slow Jail album will leave you saying sheesh; With his vocal performance and amazing instrumentation. The instrumental breaks will have you yearning to see him perform this song live. It's easy to get lost in the world he creates in that album.

With Such an amazing body of work it's leaving his fans yearning for more. Max released a live version three pack with songs from the 2021 album which you should all check out. There are also visuals to accompany the live version. I have yet to see Max Swan live and I hope that changes in 2023. If you are a fan of real instrumentation, and live music you need to check out Max Swan, a top musical talent in the City of Brotherly Love.
